The Boys Season 4: Cast, Latest News, and Everything Else to Know

The season has been filmed, but it won't be released while the writers strike is ongoing

What's coming up for the Seven in Prime Video's The Boys Season 4? After years of ruling the country, Vought's most powerful and beloved Supes are in trouble. By the end of Season 3, only three of the Seven remain in service of the evil corporate giant Vought: the Deep (Chace Crawford), A-Train (Jessie T. Usher), and, of course, the nightmare that is Homelander (Antony Starr). The Boys Season 4 can't come soon enough as we wait to see how the fates of these Supes unfold.

On the other hand, the Boys are not doing too hot either. Most notably, Billy Butcher (Karl Urban) is staring death in the face after taking just a little too much Temp V. The next chapter will continue to follow the journey of Hughie (Jack Quaid) and the Boys as they get back on their feet. They not only have to continue their fight against Vought and the Seven, but it seems like Homelander's son Ryan (Cameron Crovetti) has also crossed over to the dark side. Who knows how Billy is going to respond to this?

Developed by Eric Kripke and based on the comic book series of the same name by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, The Boys follows a group of mostly ordinary humans (aka the Boys) as they attempt to expose the corruption and crimes of megacorporation Vought International — and the superheroes it employs.

Across its three seasons, The Boys has given us all kinds of nasty content. But VFX supervisor Stephan Fleet teased that something even worse is coming in The Boys Season 4. "I think I just saw the most disgusting thing I have seen working in this business thus far," Fleet tweeted in January. We have no idea what he is referring to, but we know we're in for another gross and chaotic ride when The Boys Season 4 premieres.

Here's everything we know so far about The Boys Season 4.

The Boys Season 4 latest news

Even though filming has wrapped on Season 4 of The Boys, the series is not immune to the effects of the writers' strike for fair compensation. On June 28, creator Eric Kripke tweeted that the Season 4 release date will depend on the outcome of the strike (which he fully supports). Asked why, he explained that even though the season has been shot, writers are still responsible for adding dialogue that actors read in post-production as part of the editing process.

The week prior, Kripke was on the strike picket lines with cast members from The Boys and the upcoming spin-off Gen V.

The Boys Season 4 release date

No release date has been announced for The Boys Season 4, but filming wrapped in April. The ongoing writers strike has delayed the season during post-production.

The Boys Season 4 production timeline

Production on the fourth season began last fall, and Kripke made a post on Aug. 22, 2022, with the caption "Day One."

Members of the cast also posted about the new season on social media. "Today we start work on season 4," wrote Jack Quaid, who stars as Hughie. "This photo is from the first day The Boys were all on set as a team during season 1."

On Feb. 12, Kripke tweeted about the finale of the upcoming season. "Alright, Toronto. Let's do this," he wrote, and added the hashtag "#Season4Finale." The showrunner later posted that Season 4's finale will not be the show's last episode — whew! "I'm here to prep & direct the Season 4 finale," Kripke posted. "No, not the series finale, there will be more!" No official renewal for The Boys Season 5 has been announced yet, but Kripke's tweet definitely hints at that.

On April 14, Kripke took to Twitter to share that filming has wrapped on Season 4. He posted selfies with Quaid and Karen Fukuhara, both of whom, to the surprise of no one, are covered in blood.

Quaid also posted a selfie. "That's a picture wrap on season 4!!!!" Quaid wrote on Twitter. "Thank you to our incredible cast and our insanely talented, hard-working crew. This one's our best yet."

The Boys Season 4 cast

There are a bunch of new cast members joining in Season 4, including Susan Heyward, who is starring as Sister Sage, and Valorie Curry, who is starring as Firecracker. Both of these characters are superheroes. "These new Supes are some of the best & craziest ever written for #TheBoys," Kripke wrote of the news. "You are going to love them. And by love, I mean be absolutely horrified & a tiny bit nauseous." Amazon also shared that Crovetti, who plays Ryan, has been upped to series regular.

On Oct. 10, 2022, The Boys dropped first look photos of Heyward's Sage and Curry's Firecracker. "Wait till you see @susanheyward & @valoriecurry in action," Kripke wrote in a repost. "Horrific & hilarious & very, very dangerous."

On Aug. 25, 2022, Deadline reported that Jeffrey Dean Morgan will join the cast of The Boys as a recurring guest star. Amazon did not share the character Morgan will play. The actor previously worked with Kripke on The CW's Supernatural, where Morgan starred as John Winchester. "Can't tell you how excited I am! Big thanks to @therealKripke and @AMCPlus & @TheBoysTV for finding a way with both schedules," Morgan wrote on Twitter after the announcement, referencing his upcoming series The Walking Dead: Dead City. "No easy task. SO DAMN STOKED!!"

On Dec. 1, The Boys revealed new members joining the Season 4 cast. They include Rosemarie DeWitt, who will star as Hughie's mom, as well as Rob Benedict and Elliot Knight. No information was shared about who Benedict and Knight will play. Amazon also said that Simon Pegg will return as Hughie's dad in the upcoming season.

As for the rest of the cast, we are expecting Antony Starr, Chace Crawford, Jessie T. Usher, Karl Urban, Jack Quaid, Erin MoriartyTomer Kapon, Karen Fukuhara, Laz AlonsoClaudia Doumit, and Colby Minifie to return.

We don't know if Jensen Ackles' Soldier Boy will be back for The Boys Season 4. But we can at least expect the macho character elsewhere. At a Supernatural fan convention in April, Ackles said Soldier Boy will appear in the The Boys spin-off Gen V. "[He] pops up for a brief moment in this new spin-off of The Boys," Ackles said, according to Entertainment Weekly. "In fact, there's a few cameos from the mothership that come into this spin-off." Gen is based on The Boys comic book arc "We Gotta Go Now." And in June 2023, Ackles confirmed that Soldier Boy isn't dead, according to Screen Rant, and seemingly referenced those Gen V rumors by saying, "There's some things out there. I'm not allowed to give anything out, but we'll just say that Soldier Boy is not dead. Thank God." You don't say "I'm not allowed to give anything out" without having something to give out, so we'll consider this a confirmation that we'll see Soldier Boy again.
